Fundraiser set for 7-month-old born with missing limbs
Talan Holmes is 7 months old and has bright observant eyes. At first glance you wouldn’t even notice anything abnormal.
Talan Holmes was born on June 24 without a right lung, right pulmonary artery, right arm and without the lower half of his right leg.
Limbs of Love along with the Holmes family is holding a charity golf tournament to raise money for Talan’s many medical expenses at the River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy on Feb. 11.
“We decided to do a fundraiser because we quickly realized that our insurance would cover nowhere near the cost,” said Devin Holmes, Talan’s father.
Talan will need surgeries and several prostheses as he continues to grow.
When Courtney Holmes first got pregnant, she had no idea that Talan would be born with these health problems.
She had 12 ultrasounds over the period of her pregnancy and all showed a normal baby. No one caught the abnormalities.
“It was hard at first,” said Devin Holmes.
When Talan was born, Courtney’s doctor pulled Devin and Courtney’s mom aside to tell them and just started crying because she didn’t know what happened.
“We know there is a reason for everything. He appears perfectly healthy otherwise, so we are not really worried about the cosmetic issues because that is all they are.”
This is the first year the Holmes along with Limbs of Love is holding a golf tournament. They plan on holding one every year after this one.
